New Music: The Racoons

We've seen plenty of quality indie rock bands come out of Victoria, BC in the last few years. Mother Mother, and Wolf Parade (though they'd like you to think their from Montreal) to name a few. The Racoons are the next of these West Coast bands to catch the attention of indie hipsters, and labels, across the nation. While playing shows consistently on their home turf over the past few years, 'The Racoons' drastically changed their sound for the better. Lets call it, honing their craft. Lately, they have quietly been writing and recording some of the catchiest stuff I've heard since 'Apologies to Queen Mary'. 'Be My Television' is my favorite of their early recordings with catchy hooks and some horns to top it off.

Keep your eyes on the upcoming shows to see when The Racoons hit Vancouver.

Bag Raiders

Bag Raiders
have dropped some great remixes of some of their fellow Aussie mates in the past, as well as putting out their own breed of electro synth dance music. You may recognise their remix of K.I.M while channel surfing in GTA IV. Currently wrapping up a slew of tour dates around Australia and Japan, and backed by the Bang Gang crew, I'd expect to see some shows popping up in North America soon enough. Count me in. Bag Raiders continue to impress with their most recent tracks that are floating around the blogosphere.

D-Sisive

D-Sisive, whose real name is Derek Christoff, was born in Toronto, Canada and first started performing at age 16 in 1996.
He cites everyone from Brian Wilson to Big Pun as influences. He disappeared from the scene in early 2002 only to return in early 2008 with his Ep "The Book". His LP "Let the Children Die" is set for release in February '09 on UrbNet Records.
His material is hauntingly personal and incredibly raw describing his mother's battle with cancer and his fathers struggle with alcohol.
Although he does maintain a dark sense of humor on tracks such as ThisIsWhatItSoundsLike WhenWhiteboysListenToHipHop, where he raps about his father telling him to pull his sagging pants up and asking "did Treach(Naughty By Nature) have to pull his pants up?" Definitely a conversation I can relate to.

D-Sisive plays the Modern in Vancouver on Nov. 17th with Moka Only.

The Jump Off - Welcome to Juice Music Online

Greetings to all you people on the interweb. Today marks the start of the Juice Media Blog. Now you are probably asking yourself, 'what's Juice media and why would it need a blog?'. These would be fair questions. The Juice Media Team is the coming together of music journalists, videographers, and industry professionals in the Vancouver area, who offer to promote new and upcoming musicians by means of creating custom press kits. Unlike the traditional write up and CD or Mp3 attachment, we create an all encompassing audio visual experience which can include interviews, live performance footage, and whatever else the band's desire. This can be used for websites, venue and press solicitations, the possibilities are endless! To get the full skinny on all of Juice Media's services, email us and we will send you more information.

Now, as for the blog. It serves as a forum to display the work we have done. To you the bands, as well as to the fans. In addition to this, we are fairly web savy bloggers who like to keep up on the current music scene in general, so you can expect to see posts and interviews of that nature in the future. So until next time kids!
